What is Retrofit

Retrofit is the process of making improvements to existing homes.  This in turn will make the property more energy efficient, lower CO2 emissions as well helping the home to feel more comfortable.

The Retrofit process always adopts a fabric first approach.  This means improvements made to the home start with the fabric of the building to ensure the home can hold onto any heat within.

So improvements often start with insulating the walls, roof and floors.  Upgrading of windows and doors.  It can also mean renewing services such as heating, hot water and lighting.

Why Retrofit?

Our homes use 35% of UK’s total energy use and emit 20% of our carbon dioxide emissions

The theory behind Retrofitting properties is by improving the building fabric and insulation levels the property will not leak heat and demand less energy to heat and provide hot water.  Couple this with renewing services such as heating and hot water, the property is well on the way to achieving the original goals.

  • Energy efficiency – making the property more cost effective to run
  • More comfortable living space
  • Lower CO2 emissions – better for the environment.

How does it work?

A typical project has five steps

  • A qualified Retrofit professional will assess your home. This is the Retrofit assessment
  • A Bespoke plan is produced which can be carried out in stages to suit your budget, lifestyle or needs.
  • Quotes for the works are obtained from approved Retrofit contractors
  • The contractor is nominated, signed and so work can begin.
  • The work is checked to ensure it is delivered to the quality standards.
